Special unit for:
The cardiology unit has 105 beds for in-patients and is one of the largest centers for cardiovascular conditions in Germany. Patients as well as doctors referring them from all over Germany trust in the high performance and quality of this unit, especially in severe cases.
Thanks to our close links to medical research we can put innovations into practice without delay. That is why patients with long-term problems or very complex conditions are well looked after in our unit.
Some 1,500 patients attend the cardiology out-patient department in the Kerckhoff Clinic every year. Our doctors conduct discussions with the patient and his/her own doctor to work out a tailor-made and optimal treatment plan.
All modern techniques, both invasive and non-invasive, are available to make an accurate diagnosis. The Kerckhoff Clinic also has a number of special units that focus on specific disorders.

The coronary catheter examination is the most reliable and accurate diagnostic method in many cases of coronary vascular disease. We have five places for this diagnosis and perform a great number of diagnostic and therapeutic catheter operations every year. All the usual and innovative measures to diagnose arteriosclerosis disorders in the heart and large arteries, in heart muscles or in the heart valves or pulmonary circulation are routine in our clinic. If catheter therapy is necessary this is performed normally after the examination, so that the patient doesn’t have to wait. Treating a narrowing of the coronary arteries also includes dilation, and often necessitates the implantation of modern coated or non-coated stents. Our routine work also includes treating defects in the atrium, the ventricular septum or the so-called ductus botalli. The Kerckhoff Clinic also has the most modern Computer tomography and MRI equipment in Europe.
One of the most modern computed tomography devices (Dual Source CT) all over Europe as well as two 1.5 tesla MRI devices are located at Kerckhoff Clinic, making specialised cardiac examinations possible. As one of the biggest centers for cardiac imaging in Germany all kinds of examinations are being performed at Kerckhoff Clinic, e.g. imaging of cardiac vessels by CT and also perfusion of the coronary muscle by MRI.
The Kerckhoff Clinic is a specially recognised hospital for treating patients with cardiac arrhythmia in Germany. All techniques are available to treat life-threatening arrhythmia, such as special catheter techniques, or implanting modern pace makers. To prevent sudden death an automatic cardioverter defibrillator can be implanted if the conditions require it. Another focal point is the treatment of arrhythmia in the atrium by ablation with high frequency power. In over 90 % of the cases this method is successful.
Echocardiography is a technique to examine the heart using images that makes it possible to reproduce continuous process in real time i.e. parallel to the examination.
A new computer tomography with a highly increased speed, devised specifically for heart diagnostics, allows high quality three dimensional viewing in the human body, without invading the organ. This makes it possible to recognize diseases of the coronary vessels before symptoms become evident. An experienced cardiologist can perform further tests and thus assess the risk of a heart attack or stroke and then make appropriate recommendations.
The check up is intended to reassure you and helps you to detect and treat any serious illness early on. If you are interested in our check ups, please ask for our brochure with all the important information.
