Nursing

Top quality patient care

One of the most important conditions for a speedy recovery is individual, caring and patient-oriented nursing. Our professionals with up to date training can make an essential contribution.

The consistent orientation to highest standards of nursing goes without saying for our members of staff, and has long been the guarantee of top quality nursing care. The Kerckhoff Clinic also strives continually to improve nursing concepts. For example, we are involved in a pilot project to work out guidelines that will give a greater degree of bed-sore prevention. Apart from the actual professional nursing care, our staffs are also conscious of the need to give patients a feeling of security and comfort.

Modern pain management

A central concept in our nursing concept is to provide patients with optimal pain management after their operation.

We apply the so-called "expert standard pain management in nursing" consistently and effectively. The aim is to mobilise our patients as soon as possible after an operation. This encourages healing and regeneration after surgery.

Our palliative treatment includes administering adequate and appropriate pain killers before and during the operation. After surgery our personnel records the strength of the medication at regular intervals by using a pain scale. If the pain exceeds a certain level or if the pains are considered too strong by the patient, then the doctor is consulted and immediate pain therapy is introduced. The patient is given a major part in the decision making, to what extent he/she would like to have pain killers, e.g. by medication. To measure the pain and document the medication consistently and also to be able to assess the patients level of pain and work out the appropriate therapy with the doctors, our nursing staff attends regular training courses to orient themselves to expert standards.

Training courses for staff and patients

We set great store in giving our staff further education courses. The program includes preventive measures, and many special prevention courses are also open to patients and other interested people. Our training courses are led by professional lecturers who can also give individual counselling to the group members.

Pastoral care

Ministers of both Christian confessions are available and make a private visit in your room, if you have the desire. Interdenominational services are held at various times in the so called “Quiet room” of our clinic. This room is also open to interested patients, their family members and visitors outside the times of services.
Regular /further training of our nursing staff guarantees top care of our patients in accordance with the highest standards of quality.

Information for patients

Nurses and care staff are fully aware that patients waiting for an operation are nervous, but they also know that some of the patients’ fears are unfounded. That's why our nursing staff offers consultation times for patients who are going to undergo surgery. This means that all the patients have a chance to get to know the Kerckhoff Clinic before they are admitted there.

  • In a walk around with an experienced nurse you are shown the admission area, departments and wards, patients' rooms as well as the corridors in our hospital.
  • We also give you advice on how you can make your visit in the hospital as pleasant as possible.
  • You are given a chance to speak to patients who have already undergone surgery.
